The secret to richer glaze color? It’s all about what’s underneath.
Want to make your glazes POP? It’s all about layering!

One of my favorite glazing tricks is layering color to create depth and richness. I discovered that Amaco Dark Blue over Electric Blue Velvet makes the blue really come alive, and it’s a technique I use often in my work.

For this piece, I tried something a little different by sandwiching light blue printing ink between the Electric Blue Velvet and the Dark Blue glaze.

Want to experiment? Try it next time you glaze! Another favorite combination of mine is Amaco Velvet Blue Green under Leaf Green. The result is such a rich, beautiful green!

What are your favorite glaze combinations? I’m always looking for new things to try!

Hi Connie. I was on to the electric blue/ dark blue combo. So gorgeous. Thanks for the light blue sandwich trick. Been working on a new Silkscreen technique. Planning to share that in an upcoming video. Also the trick on printing ink is to just add dry cmc to velvet. Cost saver- sorry amaco! Really like your new work.
