The 2026 midterms delivered historic firsts for winners. Democrats won shocking victories all over the map and flipped the Senate and House with ease, leaving President Trump weakened.

Keisha Lance Bottoms is the first Black woman ever to be elected governor. Representative Chris Pappas will be the first openly gay man to serve in the Senate. Michigan elected the nation’s first Muslim senator, Abdul El-Sayed. Peggy Flanagan became the first Native American woman to win election to the Senate.
