A nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department was reportedly struck by a patient, prompting an investigation by the Barbados Nurses Association (BNA).
BNA president Dr Fay Parris confirmed on Thursday that the association was gathering information about the incident, including reports that other nurses may have withdrawn their services.
Parris condemned violence against healthcare workers and revealed that the association was still awaiting a response from the Ministry of Health and Wellness to a policy brief submitted last year calling for tougher penalties for assaults on nurses. She said the BNA would issue an official statement once its investigation was completed.
