Muhammad Siddiq al-Minshawi (1920–1969), born in Al-Munsha’ah, Sohag Governorate, Upper Egypt, was a celebrated Egyptian Qur’an reciter and hafiz from a family of professional reciters. He memorized the entire Qur’an by age eight and developed a distinctive, emotionally expressive style that earned him the nickname al-Sawt al-Baki (“the Weeping Voice”). Despite shunning fame, his radio recordings and international recitations across the Muslim world made him one of the most influential qaris of the twentieth century, often ranked alongside Abdul Basit, Mustafa Ismail, and al-Hussary. He married twice, had fifteen children, and continued reciting despite illness until his death at age 49; his recordings remain widely cherished for their precise tajwid and spiritual depth.
