I never thought much about my wedding growing up; what dress I would wear, the colors, location. The only thing I really wanted was for it to be outside and for it to rain.
That was probably a silly dream, not one I could really control, but it’s what I always wanted. I loved playing and dancing in the rain and for some reason that just always seemed like the best option if I were allowed to choose.
Occasionally during wedding planning I would pray and ask God for it to rain.
A week before my wedding rolls around and suddenly the weather was our biggest concern. I wanted to be outside. Gabe was an angel and wanted to keep our guests dry.
Sorry to all our family and friends but I would have rather let you sit soaking wet outside than not have my ceremony in the rain. I figured at least half of you would have a good time.
Of course that wasn’t going to fly and we came up with a less than ideal back up. I had to have trust that things were going to work out. I prayed all that week that no matter what happened, the day would be full of joy and that everyone would have a good time.
Luckily for our guests, it wasn’t raining. And lucky for me, our ceremony was outside. In front of an arbor my grandpa built, with the most gorgeous florals by my new sister.
Even luckier for me, it rained approximately .5 seconds after we walked back down the aisle as husband and wife.
Maybe this was a childish thing to pray for, and certainly not the most important thing in the world. But man am I thankful for the answered prayer. And answered in the best way possible - with a little compromise. Dry guests, beautiful rain, and lots of dancing.
