🎬 Catch-22 (2019)

During World War II, Captain John Yossarian is an American bomber pilot stationed on a Mediterranean island, desperately trying to survive the increasingly dangerous missions his squadron is ordered to fly. As the number of required missions keeps rising, Yossarian becomes determined to get sent home. However, he discovers the absurd military regulation known as Catch-22: anyone who is mentally unfit to fly dangerous combat missions can request to be grounded, but requesting to be grounded proves that they are rational enough to continue flying. Trapped in a bureaucratic nightmare, Yossarian struggles against an institution where logic has been turned upside down and survival seems almost impossible.

Based on Joseph Heller’s celebrated novel, the six-part miniseries was directed by George Clooney, Grant Heslov, and Ellen Kuras. Christopher Abbott stars as Yossarian, alongside Kyle Chandler, Hugh Laurie, George Clooney, and Giancarlo Giannini. Blending dark comedy, war drama, and biting satire, the series exposes the absurdity of military bureaucracy and the dehumanizing nature of war. Its central paradox has become a widely recognized expression for situations in which contradictory rules make it impossible to escape a problem. Through Yossarian’s increasingly desperate attempts to stay alive, Catch-22 explores fear, power, corruption, and the struggle to maintain one’s sanity in an irrational world.
