💡 Interesting Fact:

If you grew up riding in the backseat on late-night drives, that deep orange glow over every street was low-pressure sodium lighting, and it had a strange side effect. These lamps give off almost a single wavelength of light, around 589 nanometers, so your eyes can’t separate colors under them. Red cars, green grass and blue jackets all faded into shades of orange and black. That’s why the nights of your childhood felt like a warm, dreamy, slightly unreal movie scene.

Cities have been swapping them for LED streetlights for years because LEDs can cut energy use by 50 to 70 percent and last far longer. The tradeoff is that the cooler, whiter light brings back full color but also brings more blue light, which astronomers and wildlife researchers say can be harder on night skies, insects and sleep cycles. So the orange glow that quietly disappeared from so many roads wasn’t just a different color of light. It was a whole different way of seeing the night, and a lot of people never noticed it was gone until it was.

How to: Wayercolour Christmas Tree

1. Paint a thin brown line down the centre of your paper.
2. Paint V lines all the way down the line for branches.
3. Paint little green lines for line needles along the V branches.
4. Dip your brush in water and tap off the excess on side of your pot.
5. Use your wet brush to paint lines over the pine needles to make them swell and appear fuller.
6. Paint a bucket shape at the bottom of the tree.
7. Paint different coloured dots all over the tree for lights. Don’t worry if the colours bleed into the green a little, this will look pretty!
8. Paint the trunk down into the bucket.

In response to the murder of Javits Frimpong, I am calling on Ghanaian and Ghanaian American mental health professionals across the United States to come together.

The first step is a conversation about what support is needed, who is already responding, and how we can contribute thoughtfully with respect for Javits’s family and those directly affected.

If you are a mental health professional, educator, researcher, or graduate student who would like to participate, please complete the interest form through the link in my bio.

Please share this post or tag a professional who may want to join us. 🇬🇭
