#ENDSARS: Despite the fact that we raised our flags and sang the national anthem, we were sh+t at – Activist Dabira Adeyinka Recounts How A Protester Took The B¥llets Aimed At Her

Human rights activist and EndSARS frontline campaigner, Dabira Adeyinka, has recounted how soldiers allegedly opened f+re on protesters during the October 2020 EndSARS demonstration at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.

Speaking on The Briefing Room, she recalled how an ex-military officer advised protesters to raise Nigerian and military flags, sing the national anthem and remain seated as soldiers approached.

She said, “An ex-military man came and said, ‘Get army flags and Nigerian flags. Sing the national anthem. That is the power that every man in uniform must respect by law.’”

Recounting the sh%%ting, she said, “As we were doing that, I saw people running, and they started sh%%ting. They started sh%%ting while I was still holding the microphone. I saw people falling.”

She added that she urged protesters to remain calm, saying, “Everybody, just sit down. Don’t run. Raise your flag. Chant the anthem. So probably they would see that we were not even armed.”

Describing the soldiers’ advance, Adeyinka said, “They were sh%%ing at us and coming closer. People were running back, while some others sat down. A good number of people, probably over 500, sat down.”

She added, “I didn’t believe I was surviving.”

Adeyinka further alleged that soldiers pointed at her before a man dragged her away and took a b¥llet for her.

“At one point, the army guys shouted and pointed at me. A guy got up from the crowd where people were sitting, dragged me, held me and took the b¥llet and d+ed,” she recounted.

She also recalled some protesters saying, “Don’t worry, let them sh%%t. By the time their bullets are finished, you guys can overpower them.”

“I was shocked. They were sh%%ting randomly, as if they were k+lling cr+minals,” she added.
