Also providing or reminding people of healthier alternatives to things/places helps. Not a perfect idea but gotta start somewhere. I watched something where (can't recall who) someone said, the idea isn't a perfect solution but that we keep resisting. Again, not ideal. But better than just saying "b0yCoTT1nG d03s NoT w0Rk". Its giving "nothing ever happens" vibe which is a very naive take on history, past or present.

Boycotts work. It's why they hate us talking about it.

What would compel millions of people with absolutely nothing in common to spontaneously boycott? If the only thing uniting us now is our position as abstract and atomized consumers deciding not to buy a product, this is literally no different than normal supply and demand and doesn’t effect capitalism itself at all, one particular company or set of companies will be punished but the system will go on as usual. And people don’t operate on idealism and abstract morality, class struggle emerges from the immanent contradictions, antagonisms, and confrontations present in their material lives. In some random abstract “boycott”, there is no immanent confrontation and antagonism being expressed, just random atomized consumers making consumer choices and the market adjusting to that in response to capture the new demand. There’s a reason why the mass strike, the boycott, the picket line, etc, have been largely dead as anything other than basic negotiating tools since the 1970s or so. There is nothing uniting the working class, fragmented/isolated as we are now with no common lifestyle or identity, other than our condition of being dependent on wages and being exploited. If the only thing uniting us is our common misery and hatred of work, of wages, of capital, of markets and exchange, then that’s the reason why in recent times class struggle has largely expressed itself as spontaneous riots, looting, blockades, and occupations, and rather than focusing on now-idealistic dead forms of struggle, we should intervene in class struggle as it actually exists now in its current forms rather than pretending an unorganized boycott will do anything other than shift supply and demand within the status-quo.

Of course striking works. But none of the wannabe activists on the internet are doing it right.

Not just trusting each other. Timing matters as well. Boycotting a brand, product etc, only works at a time when enough people are aware of the actions of the brand. Start too early and it is useless
