Why do our nails break, crack, or have more lifting during the winter months?
This is a very common asked question from many clients as soon as the seasons start to change.
We tend to have more issues with our nails as early as when summer comes to an end. The air starts to change, there is immediately less humidity (Moisture) for our skin, hair and yes also your NAILS to soak in.
We have all been there, our skin starts to become more scaly and dry, your hands and cuticles become more dry and cracked, you start to get more hang nails, your nails start to get more cracks, or sometimes even just snap off.
This starts to happen more because the cold outdoor air, harsh winds, and dry indoor heating, starts to strip away natural moisture, making the keratin layer more brittle, rigid, and more prone to peeling or snapping.
MAIN CAUSES OF WINTER NAIL BREAKAGE:
🔆 Low humidity and dry air.
🔆 Reduced blood circulation.
🔆 frequent hand washing and hand sanitizers.
🔆 constant cold exposure.
🔆 Lack of proper moisture, and staying hydrated.
HOW TO PREVENT WINTER BREAKAGE:
🌀Moisturizer more frequently, using richer creams and cuticle oil.
🌀Wear gloves outdoors.
🌀 Avoid harsh and drying chemicals.
🌀 Stay properly hydrated.
🌀Temporarily reduce the length of your nails, or try shapes that are less narrow.
I hope some of these tips are helpful, and will help avoid less cracks, breaks or hang nails this winter.
