For those few who actually care to read the caption:

Almost exactly 20 years ago today, on my birthday, little Lorence got something he never would have expected.

It had been a financially difficult year for my parents, and I didn’t think they would be able to buy me Pokémon Emerald, a game that had come out the year before and that I had seen and played a little on my friends’ Game Boys. It was all I could think about at the time.

I had also fallen in love with a Nintendo Advance SP Tattoo edition that was sitting in the showcase of the little electronics shop in our town.

So little Lorence got home from 3rd grade and eagerly opened up his present.

And there it was. A Nintendo Advance SP Tattoo edition and a Pokémon Emerald cartridge.

They were both used, had no packaging, and had some minor signs of wear, but my god, I didn’t care.

That was, without a doubt, one of the happiest moments of my childhood.

To me that is what my personal collection is about, memories encapsulated.
