This analysis highlights a profound paradox within the modern pharmaceutical landscape. The contrast between Sir Frederick Banting’s decision to sell the insulin patent for $1 in 1923—prioritizing human life over profit—and the current reality of exorbitant costs and insurance barriers is a damning indictment of our healthcare system. When life-saving medication becomes a financial liability that families cannot afford, it raises urgent questions about medical ethics, market regulations, and the fundamental right to health. This is a critical call for policymakers and industry leaders to address systemic inequities before more lives are put at risk.
