That unusual idea went viral after X user Destiny Ndlovu posted about creating a platform where people could list their unpaid bills and “bored billionaires” could swipe right to cover them. The concept quickly caught attention online and inspired independent developers to explore turning it into a real service. One example is Pay My Billy, which uses a swipe-based interface to connect people posting bills with potential donors. The idea also raises important questions about how such a platform would work in practice. Developers would need reliable systems to verify bills, prevent fraudulent requests, protect sensitive financial information and ensure that donations reach the intended service providers. Some platforms are still demonstrations rather than fully operational payment services. So while the concept has potential as an alternative approach to crowdfunding and direct financial assistance, it was not an app proposal from Elon Musk. His name became attached to the viral story through misleading social media posts.
