Caring about what they eat is just as important as caring about their relationship with food IMO. Do you agree?

Completely agree and my 4 year old had a very similar looking meal yesterday with the last of her Halloween sweets! I’ve learnt so much about laying the foundations for a healthy relationship with food from the book ‘How to talk to your children about food’ x

Yes 100%, some of the commentary around Halloween sweets was awful: parents saying they were making their kids do exercise to earn etc. I'm all for educating on the health benefits of foods in an appropriate way for children however joy, mirth, celebration and just what we feel like as humans on any given day must be part of the equation in order to raise happy humans ❤️🙌

Also a nutritionist, my son is 10 this month and he has just started taking more of an interest in UPF. I let him have it, within reason. I'm pretty strict with artificial colours and sweeteners but we talk about it and he knows why, and appreciates it. But he's recently tried things like potato alphabites for the first time 😂 and is having more packaged snacks. If I stop him, he will only rebel, and he still loves whole foods more than anything. Looks like you are doing a pretty good job 😍

Yes! And I’ve noticed their relationship with food become even more important as they get older. Once checking labels becomes something they can do, you have to be SO careful how you talk about food so as not to make them attach emotions like guilt to certain foods. Hard balance to strike a balance but looks like you’re doing an amazing job :) x

I’m lucky because my daughter was never interested in sweets, I used to let her eat whatever she wanted on Halloween night and then the sweets would literally sit in a bag slowly turning sticky. I think you’re correct not to demonise particular foods because I’ve known kids that then seek out the contraband.

Always after a main meal and earlier in the day. Like today after second breakfast they could have a packet of sweets before going skateboarding. I do find it such a struggle as they have very little if non sweets, also the teeth! The novelty soon wears off though, they forget about them. They absolutely LOVED going out for Halloween though !!
