Enya’s life sounds almost as enchanting as her music. The Irish singer behind “Orinoco Flow” and “Only Time” purchased a castle in Ireland in 1997, naming it Manderley after the fictional estate in Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca. With its literary name and storybook appearance, the home feels wonderfully suited to an artist whose songs create entire worlds of their own.

She has also spoken about valuing her privacy, choosing a quieter life alongside an internationally successful career. There’s something appealing about creating music that reaches people everywhere while keeping everyday life largely to yourself. A castle, favorite books, and the freedom to enjoy your own company make a pretty compelling picture of success.

Mi casa su casa?? 😡 Last time I let you house sit @kevinhart4real @tombrady @arynasabalenka 😠😅 @sharkninja

This, and the internet was never invented.
📱
I’ve often wondered whether life before the internet was better. Simpler, certainly. There seemed to be less noise in our lives, fewer distractions, and perhaps a little more peace in our minds. We weren’t constantly bombarded with information and opinions, chasing cheap dopamine hits with mind numbing scrolling. We had more time to ourselves, more time for one another, and perhaps a greater appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.
💻
The internet has undoubtedly given us extraordinary things, but I can’t help wondering what we’ve lost along the way. We spend so much of our lives staring at screens, often at the expense of the people around us. We have become hermits, preferring to binge on Netflix than to go out and laugh over a drink with friends and strangers. There’s irony in the fact that, in a world that’s never been more connected, we somehow seem to have become more disconnected from one another. Perhaps progress has given us a great deal, but sometimes I wonder whether a quieter, slower, more human way of living might have been worth holding on to.
What do you think?
