A few weeks ago, I teamed up with ๐๐ฒ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ ๐๐ธ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐บ๐ถ๐ฒ to lead a phototrip to Pulau Ketam.
Having photographed Pulau Ketam as one of the locations featured in my book ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ณ๐น๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ, it was a pleasure to return with nine photographers and explore the island together.
Through a series of creative exercises that I originally developed for myself as a young photographer, we photographed its streets, rivers and fishing jetties, discovering just how many different images can emerge from the same place.
While the photographers worked through the exercises, I spent the day photographing alongside them. These are a few of the images I made during our time on the island.
It was a joy to share ideas, challenge perspectives, and watch each photographer develop their own response to Pulau Ketam. Iโm already looking forward to the next phototrip.

6 and 8 are really good, Ian. We are in Penang for a few days and then Iโm back in KL next weekend if youโre around for a catchup. Anyone recommend a Penang photographer for a family portrait? As a photographer, I am not often in any pictures but this is the boyโs first trip to Malaysia to meet all their family. So this ones special lah! Reach out if you know someone

Love the first pic. The colors, horizontal and vertical diagonals. The contrast of people eating next to a pile of rubbish. The vantage point + the diagonals + that off focus foreground tube. Are you cropping in 1x1? Wonder how does the full frames looks.
