Claude Code just got a rule you can't turn off. ๐ŸŽฎ

Reported Oct 27: the Opus 5.5 prompt in Claude Code now says not to build a recreation of a specific existing game โ€” "even if it is renamed or called original."

Anthropic's Addy Osmani confirmed it: "We added two sentences to Claude Code's prompt on Opus 5.5."

๐Ÿšซ Remaking an existing game: refused
โœ… Original games, genre games, your own designs: still allowed
๐Ÿ”’ No setting to disable it (per the developer who found it)
๐Ÿ“ฉ Osmani says if Claude turns down something that's yours, report it

Copyright protection for indie devs โ€” or an AI telling you what you can build?

Fair line, or overreach? One word below ๐Ÿ‘‡

Save this ๐Ÿ‘† if you vibe-code games. Share with a game dev.

Makes sense to me. The people I teach aren't trying to clone anything, they want the booking form their business needs. Rules like this keep the tool pointed at real problems.

Disagree on the premise of how they trained their AI. Ok for thee but not for me?

Interesting that the rule is in the system prompt itself. It will be useful to see how it treats genre-style games that are clearly original but borrow mechanics.

Care most about the no-off-switch part โ€” a prompt rule you can't disable stops being a preference and starts being policy, even when the underlying aim is fair.

Why can there be recreating of existing music but not games of the past? Over.

A rule you cannot turn off is a different kind of prompt. I run voice agents that take bookings, and I keep a short list of lines the agent may never cross, like never confirming a slot nobody asked for. Those lines live in my own prompt, and I can change them when a client asks for something new. A rule baked in by the provider that I cannot override means the agent can refuse a request I actually approved. That is fine for a game remake. It would be a problem for a booking rule I need to change on a Tuesday.

Cant you just launch Claude with the --system-prompt argument of the leaked Opus 5.5 pronpt without the new change?
