Three Christmas markets, one train line.
Vienna to Bratislava is about an hour by train, Bratislava to Budapest about two and a half. From 26 November to 26 December all three markets are open at once.
2026 dates
Vienna, Rathausplatz: 13 Nov to 26 Dec
Bratislava, Main Square: 26 Nov to 3 Jan
Budapest, St Stephen’s Basilica: 13 Nov to 1 Jan

The Christmas markets in Budapest are extremely overpriced—card payments only, and the quality is far from high-end (consisting mostly of convenience food). Furthermore, everything is served on disposable tableware (cardboard plates with wooden cutlery)! Definitely bring your own drinks (soft drinks are only available in cheap PET plastic bottles).
