🪓 Interesting fact:
⠀
Snuff Box (2006) — This comedy series follows Matt Berry, the “High Executioner to the King of England,” and his assistant Rich Fulcher. They spend their free time in a gentlemen’s club for hangmen, where they compete for women, money, and happiness while engaging in general depravity. The series is interspersed with surreal sketches featuring different characters.
⠀
One interesting production fact is that Snuff Box was originally titled Berry & Fulcher’s Comedy Bronze. The series was commissioned by BBC Three because the channel owed Channel X Productions a favor after not airing their previous animated series, Popetown.
⠀
What makes Snuff Box stand out is its unique blend of dark comedy and surrealism, set in a gentlemen’s club for hangmen with deliberately anachronistic sets. The series explores themes of competition, depravity, and the absurdities of life through its fictionalized versions of the stars. Its central question is whether happiness and contentment can be found amidst such a macabre and unconventional existence.
