There was a time when kids would spend entire afternoons outside, riding bikes around the neighborhood, playing basketball, or finding friends to hang out with. Most plans happened spontaneously, with someone simply knocking on a friend’s door or calling them from outside. Today, more childhood entertainment takes place indoors, with video games, social media, and streaming replacing some of those everyday outdoor experiences. Neighborhoods that once had groups of kids playing until the streetlights came on can feel much quieter. For many adults, those simple afternoons outside remain some of their favorite memories of growing up.
