My nose isn’t, in any case!

But seriously, luxury fashion is having a tough moment (and that’s without even getting into the losses from October 17th in Paris).

A few thoughts on what’s going wrong — and how the industry could turn things around. #Monsplaining

perhaps people are waking up to all that is going on around the world, how superficial the ideal of owning objects really is.

Lots of luxury brands started to indeed decrease quality with prices that are outrageous. And consumers are seeing it. At LMVH it’s clear that they take « white labeling » product strategy to another level… the same very simple LV tote bag and rebrand it with Celine (subsidiary of LVMH) obvious logo’s. It’s like at l’Oreal : they do R&D once first for Armani, Lancôme, YSL and then they rollout on mass markets brands their branding on the exact same innovation months after. Margins are getting are insane

Agreed ! Brands went on increasing prices year to year. Economics situation resulted in decline their sales. In parallel, ppl converted to iñspiréd altérñãtivés with increasing trend. Me following too, reliable, budgeted and luxury vibes.

Its also funny bcs the brands that used to tailor for the aspiring consumer (such as Coach for example) still think they do that but this has translated into “trend slop” in my opinion, squeezing out anything thats more original and slightly cheaper. And dont get me started on the economics of running an independent brand; zero support, high costs, confusing cross country regulation, inflationary forces etc.

I think affordable dupes are the happy middle ground for anyone who loves luxury styles but isn't into those crazy price tags

I agree that the understated luxury is replacing the logos.
