hours agoI’m the same age (51) and struggling with it too. It’s hard when you’re diagnosed so late (I was dx’d just a few days before my 50th birthday). Each day trying to give ourselves grace… some days are easier than others, aren’t they?!? ❤️
hours agoautistic here ❤️ i’ve been trying something simple to help me, as of late. when my thoughts/beliefs about myself start to drift into the negative, i try to repeat this affirmation: I am taken care of. it’s a way of reminding yourself that your wants/needs deserve to be met. you are allowed to allow yourself to be loved and supported 💕 the trauma makes it really difficult (trust me, i know all our pain is individual, but i understand) but i’m learning it’s so important. hey, i’m starting at 29 💚 gotta start somewhere @mama.serenity.wolf
hours agoI just heard a method (I'm still testing it, but so fair it works). It says: talk to yourself in 3rd-person: "she feels..." "... happend to her" "she deserves rest now" (just as a few examples). When you think other people deserve kindness, you can trick your brain so it thinks your talking to another person. When that feels easier you can switch to "[first name] deserves rest". Over the time you use a lot more positive, kind words in relation to yourself.
hours agoGive yourself a compliment for small things. Maybe you should count one day a week everything that went well.
hours agoI am still unlearning being my own bully. My wife has a (now grown up) little sister that I love like my own family. We spent a big part of her childhood together and dang I never ate so healthy, as when she was with us 😂 When I started with my therapist and she told me to change how I view and treat myself I was at a loss at first. I was told I was too lazy and should just try more my whole life....I got angry at me for being sad and stuff like that.... Working with the inner child seemed impossible for me till I tried to compare my inner child to my little sis in law. Would I tell her to suck it up and push herself over her limits? Nope. It helped me a lot to consider how I would care for her and then trying to apply it to me/my inner child. I hope it helps. You are so loving and accomodating towards Toren - try to ask yourself in situations you would push through if you would tell him the same and try to apply what you would tell him to yourself. There will be tears and the steps may be tiny, but I am sure you will make it❤️ and I bet there are thousand younger versions of you that would be suprised and proud how far you have come. You did what you needed to come so far, but it is okay to let go of some of the coping tactics, that no longer serve you, if they hurt you now. I am rooting for you 🥰💞🫂❤️🩹
hours agoYou know what gets to me the most about my mental illness in the ADHD and everything that I have is that I wish I could have been a better mother like I was always so into poor me for all of this stuff you know like wanting to die and doing this and doing that and being in a mental hospital and all these things that I don't feel like I was a good mother whatsoever my youngest son doesn't even talk to me anymore and he's got a tumor in his brain and I don't want something to happen to him so please pray and then my oldest son he just turned 29 he had to have surgery the 29th because he can't keep anything down and he's been throwing up and having a lot of problems with this stomach and we don't get the biopsies back until 2 weeks so I wish I could have been a better mother then I was when they were growing up because of all of my issues but when I was younger I'm 47 when I was younger where I live when you have problems like that they would just say oh you're crazy and put you in a mental hospital they never tried to cure you or give you any kind of means to work it out or to even know what it is that you have they would just put you in the nut Ward so my prayers are with you
hours agoThey say children are mirrors to the parents soul. I agree with statements like saying thank you instead of sorry, but I think a good exercise its to write down those hurtful things you believe or have been told/the perspective, then next to that write down the reality of that, then how we can reframe it. So for example: Perspective-Im lazy and a burden. Reality-I am chronically I'll, sometimes I have low energy and sometimes I need help. Reframe-I am worthy of help, patience not only from others but from myself, I'm not operating with the same resources as everyone else. It's not a competition. Everyone's wins, successes, and struggles vary. I'm not lazy. I'm low energy, sometimes I struggle and it's okay. You can simplify it into reality vs perspective.. so your perspective is that you are a bad parent.. reality is you're human you have difficult moments, some you might regret and wish you navigated differently. That's okay! When we know better we can do better. But you are not a bad parent. Infact you care so much because you are a good parent.
hours agoIt takes a lot of work to keep treating ourselves as we treat others. It's so easy to slip into the habits of trying to meet expectations that we heard or felt from others. I've been working on this for about a decade now. I still struggle sometimes with allowing myself the time, space and patience I give to others. And I don't have the background of trauma you do. So please, please just keep on working at loving yourself and being proud of who you are becoming now. It gradually gets easier as you work at it but there's so much to overcome.
