The original John Cena prank call dates back to 2012, when Virginia’s Z Morning Zoo radio show used his wrestling theme to prank a fan’s wife. The recording later spread online and became the legendary “And His Name Is John Cena” meme, which took over Vine and YouTube around 2014 and 2015.
What makes the meme timeless is how perfectly Cena’s entrance works as an interruption. His theme, The Time Is Now, is so recognizable that even people who have never watched WWE instantly know what’s coming. John Cena himself eventually embraced the prank call meme, saying he wasn’t bothered by people associating him with it.
