3 researchers. One AI model. Less than 72 hours. And a $6,500 reward.
Three Indian-origin security researchers from Hacktron used Anthropic’s Claude to uncover vulnerabilities that exposed OpenAI employee accounts and enabled access to its private GitHub environment.
The craziest part? They didn’t need to read or download OpenAI’s private source code to prove the security risk.
They responsibly reported the vulnerabilities, OpenAI patched the issue, and the team received $6,500.
But the bigger story isn’t Claude vs. ChatGPT.
It’s how AI is changing cybersecurity.
Work that once required significant expertise, time, and resources can increasingly be accelerated by AI-assisted tools.
And that raises a serious question:
If AI can help security researchers find vulnerabilities this quickly, what happens when attackers use the same capabilities?
Is AI making cybersecurity stronger or making cyberattacks easier? 👇
