Fall is a beautiful time to get up into the redwood canopy.

The Redwood Sky Walk at Sequoia Park Zoo carries you more than 100 feet into the treetops on a series of suspension bridges and platforms, the longest sky walk in the western U.S. at over 1,100 linear feet. It’s a rare chance to stand eye-level with the canopy instead of craning up from the forest floor, and this time of year the light filters through the branches in a way that’s worth slowing down for. Most of the route is wheelchair accessible, with an optional adventure segment for anyone wanting more of a challenge.

Admission is included with the zoo, so you can pair it with the red pandas, river otters, and the rest of California’s oldest zoo. It’s right in the middle of Eureka, no long drive required. Bring a layer, it runs cooler up among the trees.
