Of all the vehicles someone could use to sneak into Israel, they chose one of the most recognizable vans in the country. At the Rantis crossing near Elad, Israeli soldiers discovered 16 Palestinians hiding inside and on top of a brightly colored Na Nach van, the kind usually seen blasting Breslov music and spreading joy through the streets. The discovery came amid a much larger wave of illegal crossings. That same day, 74 others were discovered in a building in Kafr Qasim, following hundreds of arrests the previous week. Other recent attempts involved people concealed in vehicle roofs and even entering through underground sewers. Authorities have not identified the Na Nach van's driver or linked any Breslov chassidim to the incident. The 16 were not identified as terrorists. But the security concerns are very real. In 2022, two terrorists who had entered Israel illegally murdered three Israelis in Elad, including a man who had unknowingly given them a ride. This time, the disguise didn't fool the soldiers. Even a van associated with spreading happiness wasn't exempt from a security check.
