After six months of bargaining, our featured musicians of the National Symphony Orchestra ratified a four-year contract in early September that includes wage increases totaling 9 percent over the first three years, with an opportunity to bargain for an additional wage increase in the fourth year of the contract. It also includes provisions to account for the fact that they will be performing in venues throughout the D.C. metropolitan area in the upcoming season, rather than in their home at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall.
The NSO excels at a wide breadth of repertoire demonstrated by its recently released recordings of live performances of Samuel Barber’s haunting opera, Vanessa, Beethoven’s complete symphonies, an anthology of Carlos Simon works, Mahler’s 7th Symphony, and a genre-bending album featuring Ben Folds. Recorded works soon to be released are Stravinsky’s Petrushka, The Rite of Spring, and works by William Grant Still as well as a PBS Special and album with Ben Rector.
This past August, the NSO and Music Director Gianandrea Noseda traveled to Los Angeles and made their Hollywood Bowl debut with an all-American program to great critical acclaim.
You can catch them this spring on their multi-state domestic tour with eight performances across Indiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, California, and Nevada!
