Learjet Ranks First Among Business Jet Brands in Fatal Accident Rate

An analysis of fatal accident rates involving business jets has identified Learjet as having the highest rate among major private jet brands. The study, which examined fatal accidents between 2016 and 2025, calculated that Learjet aircraft recorded 4.9 fatal accidents per 1,000 aircraft delivered to date.

During the 10-year period, 15 fatal accidents involving Learjet aircraft were recorded, compared with a total of 3,043 aircraft delivered to date. Learjet was followed by Cessna Citation, with 3.6 fatal accidents per 1,000 aircraft. The rate was calculated at 1.7 for Challenger and Global aircraft, while Hawker and Beechcraft, along with Dassault Falcon, recorded 1.1.

Gulfstream aircraft recorded 1.0 fatal accident per 1,000 aircraft delivered, while Embraer had the lowest rate at 0.5. These figures indicate that Learjet’s calculated fatal accident rate was approximately 10 times higher than Embraer’s.

The analysis compared fatal accidents recorded between 2016 and 2025 with the total number of aircraft delivered by each manufacturer to date. Therefore, the figures represent accident rates based on aircraft deliveries rather than the risk of an accident per flight hour or flight conducted.

Thoee planes have zero room for error , as proved to be the case sadly, the passengers clearly didnt do their research on Learjet 60s. Or maybe they did and were just ignorant . Their kids must have been screaming with fear going through all that turbulence, i know I would have been if I was a toddler on that plane, imagine feeling turbulence in a jumbo jet, it's scary, now imagine feeling it in a tiny plane , it is twenty times worse, very selfish to put young children in a dangerous predicament like that

I guess I’m not buying a Learjet. 😂

Well... What about the relation to the number of jets and flown miles ? ... Or better the number of starts..

The Citation family is 30+ jets made over the last 5 decades. Similarly vague with “Lear”. Also separate owner-flown vs charter and see how the #s change.

A more accurate chart would be corrected to exclude pilot error - in which the manufacturer design had zero affect in the pilot's error.
