The case, filed in July against BTS label HYBE, alleged that the hit song — which debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 this spring as the lead track off 'ARIRANG' — had many “substantial similarities” to an unpublished demo of the same name by three little-known songwriters.
But less than four months later, attorneys for those three accusers (Steve Cooper, Jon Sandler and Greylyn Johnson) asked the judge in a Wednesday court filing to dismiss the lawsuit in its entirety.
It was unclear from court documents if any kind of settlement had been reached, and neither side immediately returned requests for comment.

The composers of the song—and I mean the actual composers, since the seven members themselves are not the ones who wrote it—simply need to verify whether there is any similarity to the other track. It is well known that in the K-pop industry, when aiming to break into the American pop market, artists sometimes sample songs that have already achieved global success (though not necessarily recent ones). The important thing is to acknowledge the copyright, obtain the necessary permissions, and pay for the use of the material. It’s as simple as that. The idol worship—claiming the song is "historic" and so on—is entirely unnecessary.

There will hopefully have been a settlement. There have been too many cases in which songwriters were not paid by Kpop mega companies after sending in demos or participating in song camps. The Guardian featured some of them. I think you (Billboard) ought to have included that! I mean, you, not The Guardian, are supposed to be the music experts! Yet I see no evidence of that expertise in this post.
