My mother died peacefully today.

Whilst there is no tragedy in the death of a 97-year-old who has lived a full life I know grief will be unavoidable, lurking around waiting for me, but today I am simply grateful that she was my Mother. And through the prism of a crowded and remarkable past, she made incomparable company, carrying her memories lightly, and always with humour.

My mother maintained right up to the end, the impeccable style, sharp mind, and effortless charm that made her not only a cherished institution, but truly the last of her kind.

when i was a kid i got told i was bad at dancing..i moved awkwardly..the parts of me that were supposed to be loose were stiff and vice versa..i decided that dancing was something other people did..i got older and muddled through humiliating musical rehearsals and nights out the whole time thinking stupid stupid stupid stupid..two years ago i started dancing at home…i mainly do variations on hip wiggle/jumping…and i do still sometimes feel like i’m being watched by the bad dancing police….but other times i feel like….aaaaahahahahaha!!!!…in part the dancing makes me happy…but it also feels like the dancing happens because the happiness needs somewhere to go
