If you’ve lived in Las Vegas for any amount of time, chances are you already know the Fertitta name. For decades, the Fertitta family has been deeply connected to Las Vegas through Station Casinos, politics, and the UFC. Now, another member of that same family will become one of the most powerful people on the Strip. Tilman Fertitta, the billionaire businessman behind the Golden Nugget, Landry’s restaurants, and the Houston Rockets, has officially agreed to buy Caesars Entertainment in a massive deal that includes $5.7 billion in cash and taking on close to $12 billion in Caesars debt, putting the total value of the deal at about $17.6 billion. Fertitta is also currently serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Italy and San Marino, adding politics to a business empire already tied to casinos, restaurants, sports, and entertainment. His company, Fertitta Entertainment, owns more than 600 properties across 15 countries, including major restaurant chains, hotels, casinos, and entertainment venues. He’s also currently the largest individual shareholder of Wynn Resorts, owning more than 12% of the company. The deal will put some of the biggest names on the Las Vegas Strip under Fertitta’s control, including Caesars Palace, Harrah’s, Flamingo Las Vegas, Paris Las Vegas, Horseshoe, and more. Tilman Fertitta is cousins with Frank Fertitta III and Lorenzo Fertitta, the brothers behind Station Casinos. The Fertitta family has deep roots in Las Vegas dating back decades. Frank Fertitta Jr. founded Station Casinos in 1976 with a focus on locals instead of tourists, helping shape the modern locals casino industry in Southern Nevada. Rumors of tension and rivalry between Tilman and his cousins have followed the Fertitta family for years as their separate business empires continued growing in the gaming and hospitality world. While no major feud has ever been publicly confirmed, the Fertitta name has long been tied to power and competition in business circles. Tilman, however, built his own empire mostly out of Texas.
