The Delhi government on Thursday announced a series of menstrual hygiene measures across schools, including free sanitary napkins, awareness campaigns, dedicated menstruation corners and a toll-free complaint number for students and parents.

The announcements were made by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Menstrual Hygiene Day during a review meeting with district officials. The government said every school in Delhi will now be required to maintain clean washrooms and run regular menstrual hygiene awareness drives for both girls and boys.

Under the new plan, schools will also set up medical rooms and “menstruation corners” stocked with sanitary napkins, innerwear and other hygiene essentials. The government said the installation of sanitary napkin vending machines in school washrooms will also be accelerated.

The Delhi government further announced a toll-free number through which parents and students will be able to directly register complaints and suggestions related to schools. The number will reportedly be displayed prominently on school walls and entrances.

Apart from menstrual hygiene initiatives, the government also directed officials to collect school-wise HPV vaccination data and improve school infrastructure, including installation of RO water coolers, whitewashing work and plantation drives between June and August.

The move comes months after the Supreme Court said menstrual health and hygiene forms a part of the Right to Life under Article 21 and directed schools across India to ensure access to menstrual hygiene facilities and sanitary products.

Makes 8 popsicles

1 Simple Mills Honey Cinnamon Sweet Thins 8-snack-pack
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
3/4 cup sour cream
1/3 cup maple syrup, plus more to taste
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons vanilla extract or paste
1.5 oz freeze-dried strawberries
6 to 8 strawberries (8 ounces), finely diced
235 grams 70% dark chocolate bars, chopped

Trim the bottom of each snack pack. Reserve the sweet thins out of 4 of the packs to mix in, snack on the rest.

Whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks. Add the sour cream, maple syrup, lemon juice, vanilla, and the reserved sweet thins, crushed.

Add a handful of freeze-dried strawberries and grind the rest into a fine powder. Add in the powder and fresh strawberries. Stir everything to combine. Taste and add more maple syrup, to make it as sweet as you like.

In a microwave-safe bowl, add the chocolate. Microwave in 30 sec increments until the chocolate is completely melted.

Working with a pack at a time, open the snack pack. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of chocolate inside. Close and press the two sides together to ensure the chocolate coats the inside of the pack.

Open the pack and add 3 to 4 tablespoons of the strawberry filling using an ice cream scoop. Close the snack pack to seal the filling in. Add more chocolate inside, if needed, to ensure the pack stays closed. Chill in the fridge while working on the remaining popsicles.

Repeat with the remaining snack packs. Store the pops in the freezer for at least 3 hours, before serving.
