Dyed my nails to a poppy orange colour with Impatiens balsamina or garden balsam. How-to: Mash garden balsam’s petals to make a paste. Add a little alum to it. Clean your nails to remove excess oil, block out the area where you do not want the dye with lip balm then apply the flower paste to the nails, wrap them with leaf or plastic then leave them overnight. The color of the dye is very sheer but I did mine a few times to get this poppy orange. Garden #balsam became a special plant associated with female and cultural images in the literature due to its ability to colour women’s nails. Through the integration with Chinese life tradition and social aesthetics, the foreign custom of painting nails was finally evolved into a traditional Chinese festival folk activity.
