McCartney’s got beef with @brianeno 😂

Roxy Music “Virginia Plain” Golden Rose Festival / Rose d’Or Festival
Maison des Congrès, Montreux, Switzerland, April 29, 1973
At the Golden Rose Festival in Montreux, Roxy Music looked slightly misplaced in the best possible way. The stage was bright, orderly European television, not a club built for friction, and the audience had the polite distance of people still deciding what had entered the room. The band was on the For Your Pleasure tour, between Italian dates in late April and German dates in early May, carrying the last major stretch of its Eno-era lineup. “Virginia Plain” had already done its first piece of damage. Released by Island Records on August 4, 1972, after Roxy Music’s debut album was out, it was not included on the original UK LP because it had not yet been recorded. Written by Bryan Ferry and produced by Peter Sinfield, the song came from Ferry’s own visual world: a painting that played on a brand of American cigarettes, a girl’s image, and the idea of the plain itself. Ferry later recalled the song as something unfinished that Island needed quickly after the album’s surprise success. They even tried to capture the sound of a roadie’s motorbike passing outside Command Studios, one more piece of machine noise folded into Roxy’s strange grammar of glamour and speed.
The Montreux set included “Re-Make/Re-Model,” “2HB,” “If There Is Something,” “Ladytron,” “Editions of You,” and “Virginia Plain,” which makes the footage less a stray clip than a useful document of the band before its later elegance began rewriting the memory. Ferry stands at the center as if already negotiating with the future, but the performance keeps refusing polish. Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay, Paul Thompson, Brian Eno, and John Porter pull the song toward competing forms: art school, glam, rock, electronics, and television spectacle. Eno’s microphone reportedly failed for much of the set, though he can be seen working the EMS Synthi during “Editions of You,” a small production flaw that feels almost appropriate.

U2 — The Joshua Tree: From Studio Magic to Desert Legend ✨🌵 The Birth of an Iconic Album
1986. Two worlds collide to create one of rock’s greatest masterpieces.
Inside the studio, U2 — Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. — pour heart and soul into every note. Rehearsals stretch late into the night, analog tapes roll, and producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois sculpt the atmospheric sound that would define a generation.
Then the story moves to the vast American desert. With legendary photographer Anton Corbijn behind the lens, the band steps into the open landscape — black silhouettes against endless skies, wind-swept Joshua trees, and raw emotion captured in black and white.
The music becomes visual. “Where the Streets Have No Name” transforms from studio idea into timeless legend.
This is more than an album — it’s the journey from creative intensity to cinematic immortality. The sound. The image. The feeling that still echoes today.

Brian Eno doesn’t just question the necessity of jobs—he actively warns against them. To him, the need to earn a living is the greatest barrier to creativity, forcing people into rigid roles that drain their time and potential. He tells art students to avoid getting a job—not to be idle, but to design a life where their work is driven by passion, not survival. The goal, he argues, is to maximize your unique talents instead of fitting into a system that limits them. While he admits to knowing little about economics, he sees universal basic income as the closest thing to a solution: a future where people create not because they have to, but because they want to.

U2 `Where the Streets Have No Name` explained: the Edge created a powerful home demo around keyboards and a chiming delay pattern, but the full band struggled to reproduce it during `The Joshua Tree` sessions. Daniel Lanois called the recording a science project. After weeks of overdubs, Brian Eno prepared to erase the multitrack and force a clean restart; U2's official history says tape operator Pat McCarthy stopped him. The song survived, opened the album, and became a defining live performance. This is U2 history, the Edge guitar-delay history, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois production, `The Joshua Tree` recording history, studio conflict, and classic-rock music history. #u2 #wherethestreetshavenoname #thejoshuatree #theedge #bono #brianeno #daniellanois #patmccarthy #guitardelay #studiorecording #musicproduction #studiohistory #recordinghistory #classicrock #80srock #rockhistory #musichistory #behindthesong #songexplained

@suedehq back at @glastofest after all these years? Yes or no? 🤔
Brett Anderson is closer than you think ... he lives ’10 minutes away’ from the farm 😁
‘I can always hear it from mine and my wife’s bedroom,’
When asked who their ideal headliner would be, Simon Gilbert, joked Brett would like ‘something quiet’.
Brett then added ‘Yeah, @brianeno doing 'Music for Airports' would be nice. Falling asleep listening to 1/1' 😂
