#Chuckwalla

Look at this very fit, superb individual we met on our hike in the desert! His charm beams were at King James levels. He may look intimidating but he doesn’t bite and isn’t venomous. Chuckwallas are herbivorous— eating flowers, plants, etc. Do be aware, that If you have a picnic, he might steal your salad or apple slices. NGL—we fell in luv. #chuckwalla #palmspringslife #desertanimals #southlykkentrail #hikingfriends

Why do some lizards sneeze out salt? 🦎💨 Rocky, the chuckwalla, has a built-in salt removal system. She filters salt through nasal glands and sneezes it out, helping her conserve water in the desert. What looks like a runny nose is actually a powerful survival strategy. #Lizards #Animals#WeirdScience #Science #Reptiles

In case you haven’t gotten any greens today! 🥬🦎 Follow Crash’s lead! As an herbivore, Crash the chuckwalla can often be found munching on tasty greens and tough desert plants like succulents, sage scrub, and cactus fruit! 💚 📹: Team Member, Natalie E. #DesertAdaptations #Chuckwalla #TheLivingDesert

Feeding our chuckwallas flowers! We care for San Esteban chuckwallas and common chuckwallas here at the Desert Museum. Did you know they have flower color preferences? They know what they like! 🌸 #desertmuseum #chuckwalla #sonorandesert #tucson

This was my first time seeing a chuckwalla in the wild since moving here in 2018! #arizona #lizard #reptile #herp #animal

My son Kellan sent me this pic of an alligator lizard on the sidewalk…the best lizard in all California (except maybe for the chuckwalla.) I swear they get bigger than the official records show. I bought one once that was thicker than a polish sausage and almost a foot long with no tail.

Meet some of our reptile friends. 😍🦎🐍 #desertmuseum #tucson #tucsonaz #tucsonarizona #arizonasonoradesertmuseum #southernarizona #sonorandesert #gilamonster #rattlesnakes #chuckwalla #snakes
