Investing in our young people means investing in safer, stronger communities. Today, we’re expanding our CityServe program — giving youth ages 14–18 access to paid work, mentorship, and real opportunities to build skills and confidence in their own neighbourhoods. When young people are given purpose, support, and a path forward, they rise to the challenge. This is how we break cycles. This is how we build hope. This is how we create change and lasting safety - together.

Today in Council I am announcing a motion to expand CityServe, a youth employment and mentorship program aimed at giving vulnerable young people paid work experience, community support, and new career paths. This is how we can continue to make Toronto safer. Last year, we delivered 500 free portable air conditioners to low income seniors with health needs, but got three times as many applications. This year, we are expanding the program to include families with pregnant moms and newborns. Next up, I’m excited to announce that everyone who applied and qualified will receive a free air conditioner this summer. No exception.

With Black youth unemployment nearing 30%, access to meaningful work matters more than ever. We applaud Mayor Chow’s commitment to the CityServe initiative and the investment to support 100 student hires this summer. YAAACE is proud to be part of this work — creating real employment opportunities and helping youth take their next step forward. 💦 Make a splash for City Serve for Kids! There’s still time to jump in and help foster kids in our community feel seen, loved, and cared for this summer. Bring a NEW swimsuit (sizes 4T–14) with you this Sunday and toss it in the donation bins in the Commons. Every swimsuit donated creates a ripple of kindness for a child in our community. 🌊 #CityServe #CityServeForKids #LoveOurCity
