A “stop your scroll” kind of piece 🤩 Can we all just admit that big box stores aren’t making stuff like this? To be honest, I love a mix of big box stores, unique finds, AND vintage/antiques, and I can confidently say…they just don’t make things cool AND well made like this anymore. Last year, I made a goal to stop buying out of impulse & really lean into collecting and curating out of feeling: what pieces feel good in my home AND what pieces make sense in my home? And when I really thought about that, it wasn’t the “viral” pieces you see in everyone else’s houses. I want my home to look different. To feel different. To actually BE different. And I think I that collecting instead of impulse buying can help achieve that. So, if you’re reading this and thinking that sounds like something you can relate to…follow along and stick around. I remember painting a sign and hanging it in my living room. I looked at that thing over and over and knew I didn't like it, but EVERYONE was hanging signs in their homes. It actually said GRATEFUL on it, and I was grateful! And then I realized... Trends aren't my friends. It just didn't fit. Wasn't me. I'm most content in my house when I do not jump onto someone else's band wagon, but instead, I pave my own way in the driver's seat, in my secondhand beater that's been around the block a few times and has seen a few things. Being an artist changes you.  I don't mean that in a snooty way or in a way that limits what art is.  Art can be painting and drawing, but it's also music, photography, design, decorating, writing, engineering, sewing, stitching, gardening, growing, architecture, building...  That one small three-letter word encompasses so many endeavors.  And, when you start down a specific creative path, no matter how broad or meandering, you are changed by what you learn.  You start to see the world differently and things that once went without notice become curiosities, worthy of attention.
