I can say without a doubt, 45 King was ground zero for my transitioning from DJ to producer. The two songs that did it were This Cuts Got Flavor and Kool back in 1987. Met him years later and became friends, even though for the first few times he kept thinking I was DJ Fuse from Digital Underground (a common mistake back in the day actually). Fast forward more years later he would call and we shoot the shit. I’ll never forget the time he called me hyped about some play he was gonna put on, doing different voices for all these wild character creatures. I always wanted to fan boy over his old catalogue but my man never talked about that stuff. He kept it movin forward whether it was beats, records, clothing lines, podcasts, plays or burning his home made cookies.. I always dug that about him. My maiden voyage of @astablesound radio show birthday episode, I thought it would be cool to call him out of the blue live on air. It was around the time of his bday too. We’re talking about mixing 45s which of course he was the genesis of that inspiration for me as well. Great times!!! I owe this man a lot. RIP to the 👑 !!

"Oakland Love Life Week" 2023 kicks off starting next week October 16th. During this week, the city will host and uplift community events that underpin the message of valuing life, uplifting love, & honoring those who spread love and help to stop violence in our communities in their work. Here are some events of the week: 10/16 @ 9:30 AM: Oakland Love Life Kick Off Press Conference 10/18 @ 12:00PM: Oakland Love Life Community Day of Service In collaboration with local organizers, we will partner and support a day of community service, which will include feeding those in unhoused encampments in Oakland, the sponsoring of a supply kit drive, and distribution of resources. 10/19 @ 6:00PM: Oakland Love Life Community Healing Summit Led by the Office of Inspector General, the Summit convenes a panel of civic and community leaders passionate about restorative justice, violence prevention, and public safety to have a dialogue about coming together to create collective solutions. 10/20 @ 4:30PM: Oakland Love Life Day of Celebration The 2nd annual celebration will uplift the city’s official motto of “Oakland Love Life”, with music, art, culture, honoring community leaders, community resources, food and fun. This year's event will include a presentation of “Oakland Love Life Hero Awards” by Mayor Sheng Thao, live performances from Digital Underground, Kev Choice, Oakland Poet Laureate Ayodele Nzinga, and special guests."
