Zoey isn't my first senior dog, but she's going to benefit from what I've learned. Feeding fresh food isn't enough, but it's a start - at any age. I also use the following protocols...
▶️ daily light exercise at her pace
▶️ a joint supplement stack
▶️ CBD oil with turmeric
▶️ functional mushrooms
And now, red light therapy. I'm starting with a LifePro Biolux wand, and will be upgrading to an Animisol blanket next month.
I'm creating various FREE science backed guides for pet parents looking for ideas on to boost their dogs' health.

Is your senior pup feeling a little sluggish lately?
It’s tough watching our best friends slow down, especially when we know their internal systems are working overtime to keep them healthy. One of the biggest heroes in your dog's body is the liver, acting as the ultimate filter for toxins, medications, and pollutants.
If you’re looking to support their long-term vitality, Milk Thistle is a gentle, time-tested botanical that offers incredible support for liver health:
Antioxidant Power: Contains silymarin to help neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress.
Cellular Support: Helps maintain the normal regeneration of liver cells (hepatocytes).
Detoxification: Enhances the liver’s natural ability to process and eliminate environmental toxins.
Digestive Aid: Supports healthy bile flow, which is essential for breaking down fats and absorbing nutrients.
Whether you have a senior dog needing extra care or a pup on long-term medications, Milk Thistle provides that extra layer of defense to keep their "filter" running clean.
Pro-Tip for Liver Support: Pair your supplements with a high-quality, easily digestible protein and a boost of soluble fiber (like a spoonful of pumpkin!) to keep their digestion smooth.

One of the most difficult aspects of my job is inspiring owners to be proactive when it comes to their dog’s health and wellness when there isn’t a blatant health concern. In fact, a common story I hear is “my previous dog lived to be *insert old age*” and then they’ll go on to brag about how they fed the same cheap kibble, had been over-vaccinated their whole life and their dog was spayed/neutered as a puppy.
Here is always the first thought in my head…
So, that dog MADE it to *insert old age* …but did that dog THRIVE?
All too often, the assumption is made that longevity automatically equals health when the reality is that these dogs may have survived, but they may not have thrived.
Dental issues, joint deterioration, obesity, common injuries, ear infections, skin/coat condition, allergy concerns, digestive issues, environmental and dietary contributions to cancers, etc.. are all health issues that are all too often only addressed WHEN there is a problem. There is even a strong consensus that these issues are acceptable if the dog is in their golden years.
The goal should not be for our dogs to live as long as possible, but to live their healthiest, happiest life, every. Single. Day.
You can either leave it to chance and hope you get lucky or you can be proactive and make informed decisions regarding your dog’s nutrition, exercise and overall wellness through every stage of your dog’s life because…
it shouldn’t be about the number of years your dog lives, but the quality of their life, each day of their life.

Interest in extending the healthy lifespan of dogs has grown as veterinary science and aging research advance.
Scientists are now studying a range of supplements that may influence biological pathways linked to aging, such as inflammation, mitochondrial function, cellular repair, and metabolic regulation.
While most of these compounds are still being investigated and are not proven to extend lifespan in dogs, early research suggests they may help support healthspan—the period of life spent in good health.
I am so obsessed with my dogs.
Zoey is 12 years old.
I've had her since she was 6 weeks old.
She's slowing down and I'm doing everything to make the time we have left amazing for her.
🥩 DIET
homemade raw blends with raw bones for dental health and engagement, Gussy's Gut for dental health, glutathione for liver supoort (Earth Buddy Pet), and extra protein and Omega-3s for senior support
👟 EXERCISE
sniff walks around the property at her past for physical and mental exercise; sit/stand exercises for her back hips/legs
🚨 RED LIGHT THERAPY
daily red light therapy (3x a day) to support joints, gut, and overall wellness; we're using the Animisol torch now while we wait for the jacket. I'm already seeing a difference with the torth
🌿 CBD OIL + MUSHROOMS
I created a mushroom blend of Daily Dawn, green lipped mussels, colostrum, ashwaghanda and extra turkey tail and lion's main. Zoey gets this Daily along with Bailey’s CBD w/ Turmeric.
I alternate this with Green JuJu wild fermented mushroom broth and Lua's Golden Paste.
She's doing well. Her mobility is improving. And her spirits are high. I pray that I have more years with her 🙏🏾 ❤️

Low energy days don’t have to be the new normal. 🐾
So glad to see @ksocialugc helping her pup bring the energy back and feel like themselves again.
Because healthy aging should still look like tail wags, playtime, and joy.

we will not settle when it comes to our dogs, and that’s why our vet nutritionist formulated a supplement to keep your senior dog acting like themself.
Q: What makes Leap Years different from other dog supplements on the market?
Leap Years' formula combines an NAD precursor and a senolytic in a bioavailable formulation needed to address cellular health.
What does that actually mean?
It means we’re supporting your dog’s health at the cellular level, where the root of aging begins.
Our bottles contain two types of soft chews:
🟡 Yellow chews (monthly cycle days 1-2): These contain both the NAD precursor and the senolytic. Together, they help clear out aged or damaged cells while supporting the body’s natural repair processes.
🟤 Brown chews (monthly cycle days 3-31): These contain the NAD precursor, helping replenish NAD levels - a molecule that naturally declines with age and plays a key role in cellular health.
By combining both, the formula is designed to support healthy aging, vitality, and long-term cellular function, helping dogs feel more like themselves for longer. 🐶💛

Starting cellular support before you see signs of aging is one of the best things you can do for your dog.
Leap Years is a two-part soft chew developed by veterinarians specifically for dogs — an NAD booster plus a senolytic, which supports the body’s natural clearance of old, damaged cells that build up and drive inflammation over time. NAD+ levels start declining in middle age, long before any signs show up, and it’s far easier to address cellular health than to restore it after the fact.
Science-backed with a clinical trial in dogs and published results. Formulated for dogs — not just adapted from human science.
More healthy days start at the cellular level.
