RIP Catherine O’Hara… Things you may not know about “Schitt’s Creek” #catherineohara #rip #schittscreek #trivia #fyp Schitt’s Creek 1. After her house burned down and she had a mere $3 left in her bank account, Annie Murphy considered quitting acting altogether. Fortunately, she got the audition for “Schitt’s Creek” and landed the role of Alexis. 2. Eugene Levy (Johnny) works on the show with his real-life son and daughter. Dan Levy plays David, Johnny’s son, and Sarah Levy plays Twyla, a waitress at the town diner. 3. Catherine O’Hara’s character Moira Rose frequently wears black and white stripes as a nod to her role as Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice (1988). The production designer (the person who is at least partly responsible for creating and executing the aesthetic of a movie) for Beetlejuice was Bo Welch; during the Beetlejuice shoot, O’Hara and Welch started dating. They married in 1992 and have two sons. 4. Dan Levy’s dog Redmond appears as the logo for Red’s beer, which the characters drink often on the show. 5. “The first scene in the series was shot the last day of the shoot. The crew got all dressed up.” - producer Colin Brunton, quoted on “Schitt’s Creek” Facebook page.
Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy talk Schitt’s Creek on Jimmy Fallon. It’s a family affair they have been working together for so long, Catherine’s experience growing up as one of six kids gave her the training to get quick witted words on edgewise. Gene Levy Watches his son act mouthing the words as involved as a Dance Mom doing every step. The bright shining star that was Catherine O’Hara in under cloak of darkness now Gone but not forgotten.,#catherineohara #schittscreek #eugenelevy #jimmyfallon
That moment when Catherine O’Hara presented an award at the 2024 Emmys felt like a mini Schitt’s Creek reunion disguised as an awards-show segment. Sharing the stage with Dan Levy, Eugene Levy, and Annie Murphy, she instantly transformed the ceremony into a wave of nostalgia for fans. The atmosphere shifted from formal Emmy proceedings to pure comedy comfort food. O’Hara leaned into her signature delivery, channeling just enough Moira Rose energy without fully becoming the character. Her dramatic pauses, elevated diction, and flawless timing were a reminder of why she’s one of the most beloved comedic performers of all time. It didn’t feel like a routine presenter appearance—it felt like a performance. The moment worked because it balanced reverence and silliness perfectly, honoring Schitt’s Creek while letting O’Hara do what she does best: command a stage with effortless humor. For a brief stretch, the Emmys stopped being an awards show and became a Catherine O’Hara showcase 🕊️

“Schitt’s Creek” premiered in 2015 on the CBC in Canada, and was broadcast in the U.S. by PopTV, formerly TV Guide Channel, formerly your cable’s channel guide. It was immediately the number one scripted comedy on Canadian television, and would remain so for its entire run, winning 18 Canadian Screen Awards. And in the US, it was immediately…um…on television. Only 263,000 people watched the first season, and 331,000 watched the second. The first big break came in 2017, when they made their debut on Netflix. Dan Levy called this a “game changing” development - season three viewership in the US jumped to 423,000, and by the end of season five they were reaching half a million viewers. (Keep in mind this is just on PopTV - Netflix doesn’t share numbers.) And then, Covid hit. Almost 3 million adults moved back home with their parents during the pandemic. “Everybody’s stuck at home and people are watching anything they hear about,” she explained to Rob Lowe in 2020. “And the people who DO watch our show — were watching our show already — are so loving and kind that they badger everyone they know to watch the show. “So then suddenly people are stuck at home like, ‘Okay, I’ll watch it.’” And when they brought up Netflix and started the show, what did they see? A series to binge about an adult family forced to share an intimate space against their will. (continues in comments…) #popculturehistorian #schittscreek #catherineohara #moirarose #eugenelevy

Best in Show has to be one of my most favorite movies, definitely my favorite among the Christopher Guest movies. Here, Eugene Levy, who was famously paired with Catherine O’Hara long before they played Moira Rose and Johnny Rose on Schitt’s Creek, talks about the decision to give his character two actual left feet 🤣 (RP YT Vanity Fair) #eugenelevy #catherineohara #schittscreek #bestinshow #behindthescenes
