5 things nobody tells you about owning a farm — from a first-time farm owner with zero experience (that’s me) 🐴 1️⃣ there are no days off. breaking up ice in the winter, making sure they always have water — sick, rainy, holiday, doesn’t matter. the animals don’t know what day it is. 2️⃣ when horses get a belly ache, they don’t throw up. they lay down — and without help, they can die. it’s called colic. goats can’t have chicken feed either, same story. everything on my farm is locked up tight now so animals can’t get into each other’s food. 3️⃣ you need a truck. i genuinely thought my Audi SUV would work for hauling hay. it did not. 4️⃣ farms look simple, but they’re actually a luxury. repairs, vet bills, feed, mowing — it adds up fast. have savings, because something always pops up. 5️⃣ snakes. i always knew they existed, i just never thought i’d actually run into one. my inner city girl didn’t realize this wasn’t just a cute pinterest board. i’ve had my farm a little over a year and i’ve had to remove 5 six-foot-plus snakes. not fun. i pictured farm life like the cute IG videos — and honestly, most days it really is that. but it’s also chaos. my pig has escaped 5 times. my goat almost died. my chicken got attacked by a neighbor’s dog. but it’s 100% worth it. i didn’t grow up on a farm — i’m learning as i go, one mistake at a time 🤍 follow along for the real version. #animalrescue #horsegirls #farmhouseliving #littlefarm #texasfarm
