This book is all about growing more food in the same space, using companion planting, inter-sowing and overlapping crops. I’ve been practising this for many years, and it’s about getting the timings right – making the most of the end of one crop while the next one is just beginning. A simple example is carrots followed by Brussels sprouts. Sow carrots in late March, then in mid-June thin a few and plant in your Brussels. Keep the mesh on, harvest carrots through July, and you’ll have strong Brussels ready for winter. Grow Together is published by Dorling Kindersley.
