Goliathus regius, the royal goliath beetle.
Watch as I open their cocoons and reveal their beauty.
🖤
This was my first time rearing G.regius. And even if I have a few years of experience with Goliath beetles, I was unsure if I would be able to pull this off.
🖤
G.regius are rare, not just because they are expensive, but because they are "difficult". And believe me when I say I was absolutely not prepared for this level of patience.
Now more of the waiting game begins until the beetles wake up, climb out of the cocoon and start to feed.

This absolute chunker is the grub form of the goliathus beetle. Known to be some of the largest insects out there, these larvae much on decaying matter but can also be fed supplements like dog food to reach weights of up to 100 grams.
The brown spots along the side are the body are known as spiracles. Rather than breathing through nostrils like us mammals, these animals diffuse oxygen using those body parts along the body. How peculiar is that!?
Check out @beetleben1 for more beetle content!
