The HCMT is Melbourne’s current newest train in service Seats are fairly comfortable. A good mix of longitudinal seat and transverse seats. More standing space which means more capacity hence the name of the train. The ride is relatively smooth throughout the journey. The HCMT currently runs on the Pakenham and Cranbourne Lines. Only two morning peak services from Sunbury on the Sunbury Line are run by HCMT. The body shell of the HCMT is built in China by CRRC Changchun with the rest of the components added in Australia by Downer Rail. At first, I expected the train to be a bit low quality, knowing that from my experience riding on CRRC Changchun trains in Hong Kong. Turned out in the end, the HCMT is so much better than what I had expected and more comfortable to ride on. These trains will eventually run in the upcoming Metro Tunnel from 2025 and there will be platform screen doors however they won’t be added to the rest of the line weirdly. Best for Metro Trains Melbourne and the Victorian state government to learn from MTR Hong Kong about the improvements added to the East Rail Line. Do note Metro is majority owned by MTR. #hcmt #highcapacitymetrotrain #metro #metrotrainsmelboune #mtm #crrc #crrcchangchun #downerrail #melbourne #victoria #australia #rail
