Comment “TEEN” and we’ll send you our proven communication playbook. 👇⚡️
Did you know most parents don’t realize how much of their daily joy is tied to their teen’s presence? 👀
When they’re out with friends, at practice, or busy living their own life… and the house gets too quiet?
Why does everything suddenly feel… boring? 😂
At Wide Awake, we remind parents:
It’s not that your life is boring.
It’s that connection with your teen has become one of your favorite parts of it. 💛
That’s a good sign. It means you care.
Now let’s make sure that connection keeps growing — even as they grow more independent.
If you’re ready to build a relationship where they still want to come back and talk to you… comment TEEN 💛

Success is sweet, but having a partner who protects your failure is a blessing.🦋🥰

We are the “strict” parents. 🙋🏽♀️
No social media until 16. Strict time limits. Every app is reviewed and approved. Phones stay out of the bedroom.
Yes, to some of their friends, we are that house.
But as a pediatric ophthalmologist, I can’t un-know what I know. I see the effects of unregulated screen time in my clinic every day—not just in the rapid progression of myopia (nearsightedness), but in the changes to attention spans, dopamine regulation, and social development.
I know that tech is designed to be addictive. And I know that a developing brain needs protection from that algorithm.
But here is the trade-off: If you remove the digital dopamine, you have to replace it with something better. Real connection.
So, we buy the snacks. We host the poker nights. We welcome the chaos.
I will happily trade a quiet house full of kids on screens for a loud house full of kids looking each other in the eye, reading faces, and actually talking.
We might be the strict house. But we work hard to be the place they want to be.
Want to know how we actually manage the screen part? It’s not just about setting a timer. I put together a free guide on healthy screen habits—including how to take breaks to protect vision, the outdoor swaps we use, and the exact scripts I used with my kids when they were younger.
Comment the word SCREEN and I’ll send the link straight to your DMs. 📩

I read somewhere that if you’re going to be strict parents, you also need to have the fun house and I couldn’t agree more.
Our kids definitely have stricter parents than most of their friends.
No phones until 13.
No social media until 16 (and even then, it’s only IG and only for 15 min a day).
We homeschool, limit screens, have bedtimes, dress modestly, limit sleepovers, set boundaries around video games, and use @vidangel to filter content.
We may be strict parents but we also have the fun house. The house where kids want to come over and don’t wanna leave.
That didn’t just happen by accident. It’s intentional.
And honestly? It doesn’t take much.
Sure, having a pool helps (the number of winter pool tosses around here 😜), but that’s not the main reason kids love being here.
Here’s what actually matters:
• Plenty of food and drinks (pizza and tacos, especially walking tacos, are always a hit)
• Easy-to-grab outdoor activities (basketball, volleyball, etc)
• Indoor games already set out before kids arrive (cards and group games)
• Something going on the tv that everyone can watch together (the Super Bowl was perfect!)
Having activities out causes the phones to naturally get put down.
The kids will play, laugh, and (most importantly) connect 👏🏻
During the events, my husband and I stay nearby in shared spaces. We be sure to have a watchful eye and listening ear without being intrusive. We’re there for refills, towels after inevitable pool pushes, and a listening ear if anyone needs a safe space ❤️
The Parker house has firm boundaries. Open doors. And a whole lot of fun. 🥰

Trying out a totally different type of content and I want to see how this lands. So if you see this please engage and let me know where you will be spending Christmas this year, hosting at your house or visiting family & friends? 🎄🤍
👉🏼I hope you enjoy this breakdown of what can happen when someone doesn’t pass the test strand. She was unhappy with the warm & dark color she had overall, and she also showed me a picture of how blonde she was earlier this year ‼️
👉🏼This tells me that all the previous blonde is right underneath all this color. And that explains why her hair cannot handle going in foils.
💡When we use foils to lighten someone’s hair, the foils heat up and can easily cause more damage. So this wet balayage worked in this case because there were no foils. The hair didn’t heat up, we didn’t use any heat source with the lightener. 🌋
👉🏼This helped us be able to just clean up her hair and give her some brightness to hold her over until her hair becomes long enough to cut off the elastic ends.
✨✨Let me know what you think in the comments. And you can use code TRUSSANALIMA to save on all the @trussprofessional used in this video 🤍

This might be one of my favorite features in a home… a bunk room like this.
Imagine:
cousins visiting for holidays
kids’ sleepovers
friends staying the weekend
a full house during the summer
Homes like this are built for making memories and hosting the people you love.
Honestly… I’m not sure who would love this more — the kids or the parents.
Would you want a bunk room in your house?
All of us dog people know the sad truth that comes along with loving a dog. When you sign up for the hello, you sign up for the goodbye, too.
Somewhere deep down, the first day you meet, you already know how the story will go. You know one day the goodbye will come - but you do it anyway. Again and again. Only edit here with this audio is - I get a rescue instead of a puppy.
Because in between hello and goodbye, they give you everything.
They fill your days with a kind of love that asks for nothing in return, except some of your time. They become your routine, your comfort, your home.
So I guess maybe dog people are a little “unfortunate” because we choose a life where our hearts will be broken again and again, but what we really choose is love, over safety and loneliness, every single time.
We accept the grief, because it means we have, and will continue to experience something so pure and so rare that it’s worth every ounce of the pain that follows.
In the end, it’s never really about losing them. It’s about being lucky enough to have been theirs and to show them all what being loved back feels like before they have to leave.

Who needs Costco when you have a best friend…
As children of immigrants our parents taught us 2 rules:
1) never show up to someone’s home empty handed
2) never let your guests leave empty handed
I love this @kettleandfire bone broth so much that I give one to anyone that comes over (not sponsored).

I’M OUT OF JAIL!
After two weeks in solitary confinement, I will get to spend the holidays out of custody before beginning house arrest in mid-January.
I will share more later, but please keep paying attention and taking action because the fight for our animal friends is far from over.

11 seasons to be number 1.
11 seasons of sacrificing time with friends and family.
11 seasons of pushing through injuries.
11 seasons of leaving the house before the sun comes up and coming home after the sun goes down.
11 seasons of wins and losses.
11 seasons of dedication from my husband to this sport he loves so much and I couldn’t be more proud.
There is no one more deserving of this moment 🤍
I’m in awe of you @leonardwilliams
