Your baby’s spine and muscles are developing rapidly. The best thing we can do is support their natural movement rather than rush it. Here are 7 simple things every parent should know: 1️⃣ Rushing sitting or standing Don’t push your baby into milestones before they are ready. Give them time and space to develop naturally. 2️⃣ Too much time in car seats & swings Babies need plenty of supervised floor time to move, stretch and explore freely. 3️⃣ Poor handling Always support your baby’s head, neck and body while carrying or moving them. 4️⃣ Skipping tummy time Regular, supervised tummy time helps build the strength needed for movement and motor development. 5️⃣ Unsafe sleep surfaces For sleep, always use a firm, flat, level surface and follow safe-sleep practices. 6️⃣ Using wheeled baby walkers They don’t help babies learn to walk and can increase the risk of injuries. 7️⃣ Improper lifting Never pull or lift a young baby by their arms. Lift them while supporting their body. 💛 Remember: Babies don’t need to be rushed. They need safe space, free movement, tummy time and gentle handling. 📌 Save this post for your baby’s growing years & share it with another parent. baby development, baby milestones, infant development, parenting tips, newborn care, baby care tips, infant safety, baby spine health, baby posture, motor development, tummy time, tummy time benefits, safe baby handling, baby lifting safety, baby walker safety, developmental milestones, newborn parenting, new parent tips, pediatrician advice, child development, infant care, parenting mistakes, baby safety tips, healthy baby development, evidence based parenting #parentingtips #childhealth #pediatrician #childdevelopment #babycare
Crawling starts before babies actually crawl. 🤍 If your baby isn’t quite ready for hands and knees yet, that’s okay! Before crawling, they need core strength, shoulder stability, weight shifting, head control, and lots of opportunities to practice. Sometimes primitive reflexes can also make it harder to lift their head or stay in the hands-and-knees position for very long. These exercises help build the strength, endurance, and movement patterns they’ll need as they work toward crawling. Most babies begin crawling on hands and knees around 8 to 10 months, but practicing these pre-crawling activities beforehand can help set the stage for success. Save this for later if you’re working on crawling with your baby, and send it to a friend with a little one who’s getting close! 💛 baby crawling, pre crawling exercises, how to help baby crawl, crawling milestones, pediatric physical therapist, infant development, baby core strength, hands and knees position, tummy time, gross motor milestones, developmental activities for babies
Want to help your baby get ready to CRAWL? 👶🏽🐾 Crawling isn’t just about moving the arms and legs — your baby first needs to build the **core strength, shoulder stability, coordination and weight-shifting skills** that make the movement possible. Here are 3 simple crawling-prep exercises to add to your baby’s playtime 👇 1️⃣ **Assisted Baby Plank** Helps build shoulder, arm & core strength for weight-bearing. 2️⃣ **Alternate Limb Reaches** Encourages cross-body coordination — an important movement pattern used during crawling. 3️⃣ **Pelvic Rocking** Gently rocking forward and back on hands and knees helps practise weight shifting, balance & crawling coordination. The goal isn’t to make your baby crawl sooner. 🤍 It’s to give them safe opportunities to build the strength and movement skills they’ll use when they’re ready. Before you buy a baby walker, know this! A walker does not necessarily help babies walk faster. Natural movement is key to developing balance, coordination, and muscle strength. Let your baby crawl, explore, stand, and walk naturally. Because every milestone deserves to happen at the right pace. Share this with a parent who needs to know! I used to think my baby kept scratching her head because something was wrong… until I realized she was simply exhausted. 🥺🤍 One of the biggest lessons motherhood has taught me? Babies don’t always cry when they’re tired. Sometimes their sleepy cues look like this: 🤍 Head scratching 🤍 Face rubbing 🤍 Ear pulling 🤍 Suddenly becoming fussy 🤍 Quietly zoning out after playing When babies become overtired, their nervous system gets overwhelmed. Instead of drifting off to sleep, they often start using repetitive movements like scratching or rubbing as a way to self-soothe. 💤 I noticed this pattern so many times. The scratching would start, then the fussiness, and if I missed the cue… a full meltdown usually followed. 😅 That’s when it finally clicked: ✨ The scratching wasn’t the problem. ✨ The overtiredness was. Of course, if your baby has redness, a rash, flaky skin, fever, or keeps scratching the same spot repeatedly, it’s important to check with your pediatrician. But if everything else seems normal, it might just be your baby’s tiny way of saying… “I’m tired. Please help me sleep.” 🥹🤍 Did your little one do this too? I’d love to know if you’ve noticed other sleepy cues! 👇 💾 Save this for the next time you’re wondering, “Why is my baby scratching their head?” 🤍 Follow @newmomlens for research-backed baby tips that make motherhood a little less confusing. 🤍 Babies don’t need to be “spoiled” by being held—they need to feel safe. 🤱✨ Did you know that during the first year of life, many babies experience their mother as an extension of themselves? Their developing nervous system finds regulation through your heartbeat, your scent, your warmth, and your touch. ❤️ When your baby wants to be held, contact nap, or stay close, it isn’t about creating “bad habits.” It’s their natural way of seeking safety while their brain and nervous system continue to develop. Every cuddle, every hug, every comforting touch is building emotional security, trust, and healthy brain development that can benefit them for years to come. 🌱 💬 Did your baby love contact naps? ✨My first baby developed a mild flat spot despite doing tummy time. Thankfully, it resolved without needing a helmet, but the experience completely changed how I think about tummy time and everyday positioning. As an occupational therapist and mom of two, I knew tummy time was important. What I didn’t fully appreciate until I became a first-time mom was how much the little moments throughout the day support a healthy head shape and development. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to make this video. Here are a few simple ways to support healthy head shape and development: 🤍 Tummy time starts at birth and doesn’t have to happen only on the floor. 🤍 Chest-to-chest (or skin-to-skin) tummy time is a wonderful place to begin. 🤍 The airplane hold encourages your baby to lift and turn their head while strengthening their neck, shoulders, and trunk. 🤍 During tummy time—and while your baby is on their back—encourage them to comfortably look to both sides by moving yourself, a toy, or a mirror. 🤍 Babywearing supports many of the same muscles as tummy time, but it shouldn’t replace tummy time on the floor. 🤍 Rotate how you carry, feed, and position your baby throughout the day. 🤍 Whenever possible, limit time in containers—including car seats (outside of travel), swings, loungers, and bouncers—to no more than about 2 hours total per day. ✨ Always place your baby on their back to sleep. Safe sleep and tummy time work together. If your baby consistently prefers looking to one side or you’re concerned about their head shape, talk with your pediatrician. Early support can make a meaningful difference. I hope this helps another parent feel a little more confident. 🤍 ☀️Follow @dr.lena.otd for more evidence-based parenting tips you can start using today. ☀️ •

HOW TO HOLD A BABY SAFELY 👶❤️ Holding a newborn may look simple, but proper support is very important because babies have weak neck and trunk control. ✅ DO: 1️⃣ Support the baby’s head and neck 2️⃣ Keep the baby close to your body 3️⃣ Support the back and bottom 4️⃣ Use a comfortable cradle or upright hold 5️⃣ Stay alert and focused while holding the baby ❌ DON’T: 🚫 Hold the baby by the armpits alone 🚫 Hold without supporting the head and neck 🚫 Hold the baby in an unsafe reclined position 🚫 Carry while distracted 🚫 Use positions that compromise the baby’s airway 💗 Remember: A baby’s head is heavy and the neck is still developing.
