Five Life Lessons from a Mortician: Wisdom About Time, Love, and What Really Matters I share five profound lessons I would tell my younger self as a mortician. I talk about how life isn’t a race but a collection of memories, the importance of saying the things that matter before it’s too late, stopping the habit of saving life for later, recognizing that small moments are what people remember most, and understanding that we don’t have to experience loss to start loving people better today. #MorticiansWisdom #LifeLessons #SayTheThings #GriefAndLove #MentalHealth #PersonalGrowth #MindfulLiving #FamilyFirst #MemoriesMatter #WisdomFromExperience #LiveBetter #EricTheMotician #DeathPositive #LifeAdvice #LoveMore
I just found this video while going through my memories from five years ago! These were the moments right after Ivy had her very first pair of glasses put on. She was six months old and we didn’t realize how far sighted she was until we saw the ophthalmologist. Watching her truly take in my face close up was pure magic. People with Down syndrome are prone to vision problems and Ivy has worn glasses for five years now. I’m so grateful for the vast array of devices and supports available to help Ivy live her best life! . . . . #IncredibleIvy #TheLuckyFew #DownSyndrome #Disability #DisabilityAlly #Trisomy21 #PrenatalDiagnosis #Motherhood #NotSorry #NotBroken #WouldntChangeAThing #AdvocateLikeAMother #DownSyndromeModel #SpreadJoy #MyKidIsMagic #HotMessMom #InclusionMatters #AccessibiltyMatters #RepresentationMatters #TheLuckiest #RaiseInclusiveKids #RaiseKindKids #LoveMore #ThisIsDownSydrome #NonverbalCommunication #DisabledAndCute #FutureModel #Glasses #BabiesInGlasses #FirstSight

The right relationship won’t distract you from God; it will bring you closer to Him. When two people put God at the center of their relationship, they grow spiritually together. By praying together, reading together, and supporting each other in their faith journeys, they deepen their connection not only with each other but also with Him. They remind each other of God’s presence in their lives and encourage one another to lean on Him during both good and challenging times. This is the kind of relationship I want, something I knew I was missing in the past. • • #faith #godisgood #relationshipgoals #relationships #bible #journaling #journal #healing #relationshipquotes #relationshipadvice #godfirst #trust #quotes #quote #love #lovemore #faith
For a long time I’ve asked Ivy if she was trouble. Recently she started saying she’s trouble, which is definitely true, but I wanted to give her some more words to describe herself. This is where we are 😅 . Having Ivy has thought me so much about communication. I am working to drop the term “non-verbal” because it carries the connotation that a person can’t communicate. But Ivy has taught me that communication comes in so many forms. Sounds, gestures, expressions, sign language, speech devices, verbal approximations, speech… these are all modes of communication. Verbal speech has been hard for Ivy because of her anatomy, muscle tone, and intellectual disability. But she has communicated with us from birth. At first it was cries or coos, facial expressions, body language. It grew into sign language and eventually verbal approximations. We added her speech device which grew her ability to communicate. Fast forward to now… she uses every single one of these tools to communicate with us. Each one has its purpose and place, and we continue to work on all of them to give her a rich communication bank. Watching her communication progress always makes me cry because I know how hard won every sign, verbal word, speech device word, and clear gesture is. This girl has made me realize how much I’ve taken for granted. She fights for every single win. . Like, comment, or share; if this made you smile!!! . . . . #IncredibleIvy #TheLuckyFew #DownSyndrome #Disability #DisabilityAlly #Trisomy21 #PrenatalDiagnosis #Motherhood #NotSorry #NotBroken #WouldntChangeAThing #AdvocateLikeAMother #DownSyndromeModel #SpreadJoy #MyKidIsMagic #HotMessMom #InclusionMatters #AccessibiltyMatters #RepresentationMatters #TheLuckiest #RaiseInclusiveKids #RaiseKindKids #LoveMore #ThisIsDownSydrome #Nonverbal #NonverbalCommunication #DisabledAndCute #FutureModel

If your kids are living with you post-college, this video is for you.  Remember: Our kids have changed, and they have grown. Different things matter to them. Spend more time listening – rather than talking – so they can have the space to show us who they’ve become and what actually matters to them. We can either get on their bus or get run over by their bus.  So instead of seeing yourself as an authority figure, start acting like an advisor.  That’s why once a week I have a family meeting where we get to have those conversations about the super tense things like shared laundry in the car and who’s helping out for dinner. Plus, it also allows me to check in with them.
What are your thoughts on this approach? 👇🏼  (via @abcgma3)
