When repetitive reborrowing becomes an “it’s probably time to just own it” moment.
Comment “KEEP” if you’d love this book list dropped into your dms.
And a huge shout out to the first book in the list. It has the most beautiful “living” stories. A huge recommendation for any nature lovers.
And don’t worry. The originals did get returned.🤭

Here are some recent children's picture books we've been enjoying. They were all published either last year or this year, except "Listen to the Language of the Trees," which was published in 2022.
These will be showing up on my monthly booklists that are included with my nature studies, along with some other new books I've come across (either publication wise or new-to-me).
Check out the blog post for more information.

Reading aloud as a family is something I’m SO glad we started prioritizing early on and continue to do even in the high school years.
These are the books that are stand outs to our family over the years.
Comment “read alouds” for this list and even more of our favorites over the last decade!
What are some of your read-alouds we should not miss?

A book about the seasons can help children notice what’s changing. These books give us so many ways to explore those changes together. 🌿
We’ve been diving into the spring guide, and what I’ve loved is how easily a few pages can become something to do. A question to follow outside, something to make or cook, or an invitation to slow down and look a little closer. ✨
There’s so much woven through these little books: plants, animals, fungi, seasonal words and their meanings, alongside ideas for writing, creating and playing. Plenty of starting points for curious children—and for those moments when I’d love to explore something with the boys but need a little inspiration myself.
Our spring guide even came to the park with us when we were learning about frogs. Small enough for the backpack, and lovely to have beside us as we explored. 🐸
That’s the part I appreciate most: having something we can read together, then take into our play, our conversations and the world around us.
Four little books to return to as the year changes. I’m looking forward to seeing what catches the boys’ attention in each season. 🍂✨

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and one of our favorite things to do for each holiday is read good books!
This year I’ve chosen our very favorites that we come back to year after year to read aloud together and a few longer ones that we’ve read once and really enjoyed as well!
If I had to choose just one of these books to recommend I would absolutely recommend “Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving.”
This beautiful story brings me to tears every single year!
Happy Reading and may these books bring out the beautiful gratitude that is my most favorite thing about the holiday of Thanksgiving 🍁

Some of our very favorite stories are those we have read together and have a strong theme of FAMILY.
The kind of stories that squash our own bickering, bring everyone on the same page, and gently shape how our kids see family, unity, and what really matters.
These are a few of our favorite family-centered living books we’ve come back to over the years. Those special stories that I will want to keep my shelf long after they are grown!
If you’re looking to add more of that to your days, I’d love to share a larger list of favorite family read-alouds with you.

I don’t think all children’s books need to look like they came from another era; there are so many beautiful, thoughtful books being made today;
But flipping through these vintage books from my girls Pappy … I couldn’t help but compare them to some of the books I see on shelves today 😵💫
When did we start making so much of childhood so bright, so polished, so … simplified? What happened to the intricate illustrations, the unexpected details, the artwork that invites you to linger on a page and notice something new every time?
Maybe I’m romanticizing the past a little. Every generation has its own treasures and honestly, not everything old was better.
But I do wonder if in our efforts to make things more “engaging” for children, we sometimes underestimate their capacity to appreciate beauty, complexity, and things that ask them to slow down. Is this not, in fact, a skill they need to practice?
Children don’t need everything to be designed specifically to capture their attention, I think they deserve things that reward that attention
Not every book needs to be a work of art, but I feel the quality of the writing has diminished immensely too! I’m kind of horrified to hear about so many people publishing books now with the “help” of AI 😵💫🫠
Somewhere between flying cars and ChatGPT flyers, I feel we might be losing the plot.
