The crowd at the Miami Beach Pride parade on Sunday booed Rep. Fabian Basabe and called for his resignation.
The Republican Miami Beach lawmaker has faced scrutiny for his voting record and allegedly slapping an aide. Last year, Basabe campaigned as a moderate Republican. Now, constituents say Basabe has skirted his campaign promises.
Despite the criticism, Basabe participated in the pride parade. He was met with protesters, boos and signs that said he “betrayed” Miami Beach’s LGBTQ community.

They tried to hold us back…but love always shows up louder. 🌈
This morning’s rainbow crosswalk reveal on Miami Beach was more than paint on pavement—it’s visibility, resilience, and a reminder that we’re still here, still proud, and still moving forward.

I’ve had a lot of people (mostly straight men) ask me over the years what my connection to the LGBTQ community is exactly…
Well, I’ve always been about the underdog, the minority, the excluded because I, too checked all of those boxes.
In 2002, Simon Cowell did me the biggest favor calling me a Drag Queen on national television because it solidified my audience and we’ve been rocking ever since!
I will say it forever: WE are ALL allowed to disapprove or advocate, but your disdain could be someone else’s truest most authentic form of expression (which should also be allowed), and that’s with ANYTHING.
Allow differences without condemnation. We are HERE together but we don’t LEAVE together so why do you care who someone chooses to love?
Compassion takes grace, and it doesn’t make you any less authentic.
Love simply “is”.
Always has been and always will be.
Let Others Validate (their own) Existence (L.O.V.E.)
