I wanted to share a quick video of some useful tips. Keep in mind. I am a wet on wet oil painter. I like to try to do most of my paintings in one or two sittings #oilpainting #oiloncanvas #pleinair
How I fixed cracks in my oil painting 🎨
In my case, the cracks appeared because I added another layer of paint before the layer underneath had dried properly.
Before varnishing, I used a very thin brush and carefully filled only the cracked areas with a small amount of oil paint.
Let the repaired areas dry completely before applying varnish.
If your oil painting has similar small surface cracks, this is how I fixed mine!
Save this for later 🎨
Hope this helps another oil painter!
anyone else find it crazy how easy it is to support an emerging artist?

A little glimpse into slower mornings and warmer days ☀️ @katerinaspopova paints life as it’s lived… laundry piles, pups, sun-soaked corners and all. An award-winning oil painter known for her interiors and landscapes, she turns the everyday into the extraordinary (proof that even a laundry hamper is worth capturing).
Serene, slightly surreal, and beautifully real, her two new works feel like a deep exhale. Catch them on our website before they wander off. 🐾✨
Mauritian-born, Melbourne-based oil painter Hannah Brouard (@hannahbrouardart) transforms the transient nature of travel and memory into deeply layered, textured compositions.
Working primarily with oil and a palette knife, she builds rich, tactile surfaces that capture the quiet, overlooked fragments of her journeys. Rather than simply depicting a physical location, she beautifully translates the emotional residue a place leaves behind.

Hey im alex, a french oil painter, former photographer. Which paint do you prefer ?
Let me paint a picture for you... 👩🏼🎨🎨
I'm a professional oil painter, and have been for a number of years now. But my journey to finding good control with oils has been one dating back to when I first started 9 years ago. Here's the lesson I learned over time, from trial and error and LOTS of practice -
Before I get into it...
📌 Comment 'LEARN' and I'll send you the link to join my oil painting course waiting list, so you don't miss out on the limited spots and the special enrolment offer 📌
~ Launching October 1st!
Now, let me explain.
We are talking about the well known and very scary "fat over lean" rule here - it isn't actually scary, but it is certainly perceived that way by a beginner oil painter. All this means is that oils will layer correctly if you build them from a leaner mixture to a fatter mixture - to simplify, fatter means they are getting more and more oily.
This is where the oil medium becomes a key player to gain control of oil paint. You use it to manipulate how oily your paint mixes are, and when utilised correctly and in the right circumstances, it will be a total game changer in terms of getting the paint to do what you want. This is a beginner's dream come true (and any oil painter, really!) 😝
When you understand this concept, oil painting becomes so much more simple. Dare I say easy? I personally felt SUCH a shift when I finally got the hang of it.
So this is just one of many many things I'll be teaching you about oils in my course. You will have all the necessary knowledge, but also learn how to actually apply it, so you can master your oil painting practice.
✨ Make sure you comment 'LEARN' for a link to join my waiting list alongside soooo many other artists! You won't wanna miss this one 😍
Jason Colbert is the founder and visionary behind Life in Colors Studio, where every painting is created with one purpose: to turn vision into something vivid and unforgettable. As an oil painter and the creator of the artistic philosophy known as Colorism, Jason uses bold color, symbolism, and emotion to tell stories of hope, resilience, identity, and transformation.
Based in Memphis, Tennessee, his work blends fine art with powerful narratives inspired by culture, faith, family, and the human experience. Whether creating large-scale public works, live paintings, or private commissions, Jason believes art should do more than decorate a space—it should leave a lasting impact on the people who experience it.
Since founding Life in Colors Studio in 2018, Jason's work has been recognized through community collaborations, corporate commissions, educational partnerships, and cultural events, including serving as an official artist for Africa in April and creating portrait commissions for the University of Memphis. His paintings have become known for their vibrant palettes, emotional depth, and unmistakable visual style.
Guided by the belief that "I don't just paint what I see—I paint what I know is possible," Jason continues to inspire others through every brushstroke. His mission is simple: to create artwork that sparks conversation, celebrates humanity, and reminds people that even in life's darkest moments, there is always room for color.

Yet another reason I’m so glad I asked for help when I did 😮💨
I’m eternally grateful to everyone around me for getting me through what was, to be honest, a really horridly crap time. Back then, something as simple as a tree leaning into our garden or work being done on the house next door (very much ongoing 🥲) would have set off a chain of panic, a domino effect of anxiety. 🫠
Without asking for and receiving the help/support I did there’s absolutely no way I’d have been able to experience (or even THINK about experiencing, I simply didn’t have the headspace) the things I have in the last few months. 🩵
This open studio feels like a massive celebration of how far things have come for me, how much has changed, and I’d love to see you there. 🥰
📆 Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th September
📆 Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th September
📍 8 Camden Row, SE3 0QA
⏰ 12-5pm
I’ll be sharing a space with two other artists, my friends Annette Johnson SWA @annettejohnson43 (oil painter and studio host) and Linda Romano @romano9242 (mixed media artist) 🥳
Thank you for everything 💖
